Revolut is valued at $115 billion and has 80 million customers. The next test is deeper: deposits, lending, revenue per user and whether customers make it their primary bank.
Revolut has won the scale argument. Now it has to win the banking argument.

The London-based fintech is valued at about $115 billion, making it Europe’s most valuable startup. It has roughly 80 million customers globally and reported £1.7 billion in pretax profit for 2025, according to Reuters.
Those numbers are large enough to make traditional banks pay attention.
But the next question is more interesting than the headline valuation: how many of those customers actually use Revolut as their main bank?
KEY FACTS
- Revolut’s valuation is about $115 billion.
- The company says it has around 80 million customers globally.
- Pretax profit reached £1.7 billion in 2025.
- Revenue per customer remains below that of large traditional banks.
- Its loan-to-deposit ratio was about 6%, showing a lending business that is still small relative to deposits.
- Management is expanding banking licenses and pushing into more markets, including the United States.
THE NUMBER THAT MATTERS IS NOT 80 MILLION
User count is useful. It is not the same thing as a deep banking relationship.
A customer can download an app for travel, foreign exchange or a virtual card and still keep salary deposits, savings, a mortgage and investments somewhere else.
Traditional banks make money because relationships become layered. Deposits fund lending. Credit products generate interest. Wealth products generate fees. Primary accounts generate recurring transaction data and make switching less likely.
Revolut’s challenge is to move from useful financial app to financial home base.
WHY THE 6% RATIO MATTERS
A low loan-to-deposit ratio is not automatically bad. It can reflect conservative lending, a newer credit business or a deliberate decision to avoid balance-sheet risk.
But it also shows how different Revolut still is from many mature banks.
Deposits become economically powerful when a bank can deploy them into loans and other assets without destroying credit quality. The hard part is not collecting customer balances. It is turning those balances into durable, risk-adjusted returns.
VALUATION NEEDS DEPTH, NOT ONLY REACH
A $115 billion valuation assumes that today’s scale can become tomorrow’s economics.
That could happen through higher balances, more salary accounts, credit cards, personal lending, business banking, subscriptions, trading, payments and wealth products.
The opposite risk is that a large share of users remain secondary customers who love one or two features but keep their most valuable financial relationships elsewhere.
For investors, that distinction matters because customer acquisition can look impressive long before lifetime value is proven.
THE PRIMARY-BANK TEST
Here are the signals worth watching:
- Salary deposits: Are more customers routing their main income through Revolut?
- Average balances: Are customers trusting the platform with more money?
- Lending growth: Can Revolut build credit products without sacrificing underwriting quality?
- Revenue per customer: Does the platform earn more as relationships mature?
- Retention: Are customers staying because the product improves, or because switching becomes difficult?
MNS LENS: DOWNLOADS ARE NOT DEPOSITS
Fintech stories often use the wrong scoreboard.
Downloads are attention. Users are reach. Deposits are trust. Credit is risk. Profit is proof.
Revolut has already demonstrated that millions of people will open the app. The next decade is about proving that enough of them will put their financial lives there.
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR OTHER FINTECHS
The Revolut model raises the bar for Nubank, Monzo, Chime and other digital banks. Global expansion is not only about entering new countries. It is about earning enough trust to become the place where customers receive income, hold savings and borrow money.
That is harder—and more valuable—than winning an app-store ranking.
